Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to arouse its desires.
Romans 13:14 NET
To make provision for something is to supply the necessary conditions.
The devil lures you into thinking that you are strong enough to control your desires, knowing full well that if he can just get you to go far enough, your own passions will kick in and his job will be easy.
But every person is tempted when he is drawn away, enticed and baited by his own evil desire (lust, passions).
James 1:14 AMPC
We have to realize that the devil wants to steal, kill, and destroy. He wants to deceive us in order to get us to do what he wants.
Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil’s trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants.
2 Timothy 2:26 NLT
It is naive to think that we can put ourselves into a place where our flesh can be triggered and we will be fine. It is wisdom to NOT make provision (accommodate, supply resources) for the flesh.
Nobody is above being tempting, therefore you do not put yourself into circumstances that cause you to be tempted.
The flesh is never satisfied. If you give in a little, it wants more, and then more, and more until you are no longer in control. Most people don’t realize that there is a spiritual component to this progression. The more you give in to the flesh, the more power you give to the devil to control you.
Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.
James 1:14-15 NLT
But instead warn (admonish, urge, and encourage) one another every day, as long as it is called Today, that none of you may be hardened [into settled rebellion] by the deceitfulness of sin [by the fraudulence, the stratagem, the trickery which the delusive glamor of his sin may play on him].
Hebrews 3:13 AMPC
But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts].
Galatians 5:16 AMP
For those who are according to the flesh and are controlled by its unholy desires set their minds on and pursue those things which gratify the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit and are controlled by the desires of the Spirit set their minds on and seek those things which gratify the [Holy] Spirit.
Romans 8:5 AMPC
